Group Vocal

Group Voice Lessons are $50 per month and are an hour in length. (4 lessons) There needs to be 3 students in each session of group lessons.

I prefer to teach in groups. It is very important for singers to develop a good ear for music. They learn a lot when they watch other students being coached and learn the importance of being teachable and not being embarrassed about it. It is important for students to point out positives in other singers and view fellow singers as another respected artist instead of a threat. Group lessons build confidence and character in singers, helps them become better performers and enhances their ability to learn to sing parts in a duet or trio.

I teach the speech level method of singing. I implement presentation (or in other words stage presence or performance) skills, sight-reading, and harmonization into my lessons when possible. My father and I prefer to refer to our style of teaching as "vocal toning".

We begin every lesson with warm-ups. We then work on sight-reading and harmonization skills. It is important to know how to read music and not just be able to sing. We work on single line sight-reading as well as block and contrapuntal style of sight-reading (when you can hear, pick out and sing your own part amongst other parts being played). We then take turns working on a solo piece that the student chooses and brings to the lesson. It can be sheet music (please bring a copy for me to keep so I can practice on piano), cd, or ipod. Sheet music is preferred but all are acceptable. If a student shows up without music, they are forfeiting their solo time. They are welcome to participate in the warm ups and sight-reading but their individual time will be divided amongst the prepared students.

I hold a recital twice a year. Once during the holidays and once at the end of the school year and beginning of summer.
