Private Piano Lessons are $50 a month for a half an hour lesson. (4 lessons)
I prefer the Alfred's Basic Piano Series of books.
Each lesson, the student will begin with an "exercise". This consists of a basic knowledge of scales, arpeggios and chords. This is a simple warm up for their fingers but it is also vital to their foundation as a musician. They will then work in their workbooks, usually theory and notespeller. The theory book teaches and reviews theory of the piano in all forms and the notespeller book reinforces the student's knowledge of notes and intervals. These workbooks are followed by a Technic book which are shorter exercises designed for finger dexterity and applying scales, arpeggios and chords into simple songs. The lesson book consists of longer songs that apply many skills at once. The solo book songs usually take twice as long to master as the technic and lesson books songs. The solo book pushes the student and tests their knowledge of the skills expected.
I have a recital twice a year. One recital will be during the holiday season and the other will be around the end of the school year and beginning of summer break.
